Since 1989, VDK Architects has performed a wide variety of laboratory renovation work at Genentech's South San Francisco research campus. The more than 30 completed projects have a combined construction value of well over $20 million.

Projects include a nuclear magnetic resonance laboratory, constructed to house an 850MHz instrument (at the time one of the largest on the West Coast); a suite of four BL-2+ biocontainment virology laboratories; robotics labs for high through-put screening; and laboratories for biochemistry, assay development, organic chemistry, and quality assurance.
