Gilead B344 & B342
Chemistry Laboratory Buildings

Foster City, California

Gilead is a leader in the development of small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases. The company shared its 62,000 sf of space in Buildings 344 and 342 with another tenant. The tenant's departure allowed for renovation and expansion.

Phase 1, the 30,000 sf renovation of Building 344, added labs for medicinal chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, and high through-put screening. The project also included an X-ray lab, a nuclear magnetic resonance lab and a research library. Construction of this phase was completed in 2000. In 2002 the design of the build-out of Building 342 began. This 32,000 sf renovation added more medicinal chemistry labs, a metabolism lab, tissue culture, and an 80-person conference room. To physically link the two research buildings, an enclosed connecting building was constructed as part of Phase 2.
