The Islet Cell Transplant Laboratory houses a unique NIH funded program to develop cell transplant procedures and immune system therapies for use in the treatment of diabetes. The mission of the 4,500 sf self contained facility is to process sufficient quantities of islet cells for use in Phase II and Phase III clinical trials. Because the trials involve the transplantation of cells into human subjects, the facility is licensed by the FDA, and as such was designed and constructed in compliance with current GMP regulations.
